UNDERSTANDING SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER

AND RECOVERY

Become knowledgeable about substance abuse as a mental disorder, and a manageable trait. We will explain the psychology behind addiction and the personal and societal impacts from depending upon a criminalized substance. This groundbreaking course will not advocate lifelong sobriety as a treatment, or even a realistic option. Instead, it will empower students with accurate statistical analysis and instill confidence in their willpower. When one is given the strength to take control of his decisions he cannot deflect blame to the substance itself or a toxic environment. Recreational drug usage is an ancient human activity that will never be eradicated, and therefore we must take every measure possible to be unbiased and informative.

Education without isolation.

(A VITAL GUIDE TO SUCCESS ON THE OUTSIDE)

Becoming an expert in written communication is a skill you will utilize and benefit from for the rest of your life. Citizens with the power of writing and distributing formal opinions and requests are respected in every industry.

Also included in this course:

On the inside: how to write your petition for appeal, how to write a formal letter to your judge, how to structure a letter of character reference.

On the outside: how to write your resume after serving time, how to answer difficult application and interview questions without disqualifying yourself.

Prison is dehumanizing and life-altering, but entering back into society can be an impossible feat. Inmates who have served large chunks of time may be tossed out into a world that is understandably unrecognizable to them. This course will provide you with real-life strategy, hands on support options, and the information you will need in order to help yourself when no one else can.

This course also functions as an exercise for your mental vulnerabilities and will prepare you for the worst case scenarios of stress, failure, and hardship that may await on the other side. Being painfully aware of the possible complications you might endure will acquaint your psyche with stress and defeat, training you to stay on track when circumstances are less than ideal. Thoughtlessly, ex-convicts are expected to adapt to their new environment without any prior guidance, leaving many of them homeless, unemployed (and unemployable), and disconnected from their allies on the outside. This has nothing to do with their capability and value as a productive member of society.

We know this, and we won't let you fail! Let us arm you with the tools you will need to find housing, employment, community, and assistance. Don't let your lack of knowledge be the hurdle that keeps you from victory.
